WHAT'S THE ARTS ALL IANCE ALL ABOUT? We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts in the greater Sandpoint area. Our philosophy is that art experiences are essential for the overall health and well-being of the community and the individual citizen. We value human expression, originality, and quality. We celebrate and validate the process of making art.
HOW DOES THE ARTS ALLIANCE "SUPPORT THE ARTS?" • We help residents and visitors find, enjoy and participate in the artistic and cultural events available in the community. • We manage The Sandpoint Center for the Arts, a privately owned, multi-purpose community arts center in downtown Sandpoint, Idaho • We conduct classes in the visual arts for all ages, elementary-age children through seniors. Some of these classes are held off-site in private studios. • We work with public and private schools to provide artist residencies designed for the classroom. • We raise private funds to support the arts in the community. • We provide information and networking for artists and arts groups. • We connect artists with various locations where they can exhibit their work. • We help professional and amateur artists and arts organizations produce music, theatre, dance, visual, media and literary art.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN HERE? Founded in June 2006, the Arts Alliance began in response to the lack of art services and programs in the greater Sandpoint area. The first three years of operations have been dedicated to establishing an art center. The Arts Alliance began hosting classes in a room at a local school, and after a year found its home in a historic building (now known as the Sandpoint Center for the Arts) in conjunction with the Redtail Gallery in downtown Sandpoint, Idaho. The Arts Alliance will, in the next few years, establish more services for artists, build the art center, and work with other local arts organizations to strengthen the presence of the arts in the area.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Arts Alliance is to stimulate, enhance and develop the arts in the northern Idaho region via partnerships, awareness and education.
The Arts Alliance makes all of its programs, facilities and services available without regard to race, color, sex, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, disability, gender preference, marital status or political affiliation.
ALLIANCE MEMBERS We are a network of community art advocates: artists, art administrators, art educators, business owners, and art supporters. We are vocal advocates for arts in the community. Our focus is on community preservation and stimulating economic development through cultural enrichment.
--- SPECIAL EVENTS --- The Arts Alliance provides events that benefit the community, through partnerships with community groups and businesses. They involve unique and interactive activities. Our events are fun, unique and “out of the box”; they are focused on making, presenting and preserving the local culture. The public can view new works, both performance and visual, at these events.
--- ART CLASSES & ART CENTER ---
A primary goal is to operate a well-rounded arts center, providing a variety of art experiences to people of all ages and all economic levels.
Arts Alliance classes are offered for adults as well as students. Communities with healthy art programs have lower drop-out rates and a higher percentage of students who go on to college. It is important to note that art education improves student performance in language and math. (Americans for the Arts data)
Art classes are offered for all ages at the Sandpoint Center for the Arts. In 2006-07, before moving into the Studio, we held classes at Sandpoint Charter School.
In our continued vision of the art center, studio spaces will be inspired toward specific media, such as ceramics, fiber, painting, glass, sewing, photography, performance, and more. Studio pass members will be able to utilize the studios on their own time to work on personal projects.
--- ARTS INFORMATION HUB ---
The Alliance collects and distributes information about the local arts scene through our online email newsletter. We also offer a resource directory of artists, crafters, galleries, and art organizations on our website.
OPERATIONS
We currently hire art instructors on contract, and employ administrative staff. The Arts Alliance is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. Committees for arts education, fundraising and events are led by board members and supported by volunteers.
We receive support through businesses and individuals like you who believe the arts are a worthy investment in their community. Grants from public and private entities may support specific projects, and are not an ongoing source of income. Income from classes, admission fees and sales also contribute to our budget.
Members provide a strong base of support for our programs. Membership is open to all interested individuals. We also encourage businesses and organizations to become involved, particularly in our educational outreach efforts. We invite you to join our membership and participate in our activities.
